Dancesport Kingdom

Welcome to Dance Kingdom.

Our mission at Dance Kingdom (formerly Dancesport Kingdom) is to enrich your life through Ballroom, New Vogue and Latin American dancing.

Something very special is happening at Dance Kingdom. Experience dance in our beautiful Ballroom and you'll get so much more than just learning how to Ballroom, New Vogue and Latin American dance really, really well.

We know everything there is about Ballroom!

And we can't wait to share it with you! We’ve studied Ballroom inside and out, and we pride ourselves on tips to make your dancing feel wonderful. Our mission is that there's a new nugget of information in each lesson that takes your dancing to another level. That’s why we are known for our quality of teaching, and our unique learning system.

We love teaching Ballroom!

Many of our dancers say their DK instructors become their friends too, but we are not shy to push you that bit further with your dancing when you need it too! And we'll be the ones cheering the loudest at the side of the floor when you achieve your dancing success, whatever that may be for you!

Our uniqueness shines through in our absolute commitment to giving every dancer an enchanting experience as they learn to dance. For many in our community, dance develops into a lot more than a fun ‘pastime’ - it becomes a lifestyle filled with events, friendship, glamour, excitement, and top it off, a host of health benefits. We experience such joy when a student thanks our team for giving them something to look forward to, to work towards each week, and when a student glows with a sense of achievement that comes with mastering a new figure or dance.

Professional Dancer and Dancesport Coach

Leighton has danced for twenty-five years and has won numerous titles in all three Dancesport styles in Australia throughout that time.  In late 2005 he moved to the UK, and for six years trained with the worlds best, winning a number of titles and regularily competing in the "big three" British events: the UK Open, International Open and the Blackpool Dance Festival.  In 2012 he returned to Australia to compete in the Professional division and Ballroom dance teaching, bringing a wealth of experience from across the globe.

Olga Shniakina

Professional Dancer and Dancesport Coach

Olga started Ballroom and Latin American dancing at five in Russia and fell in love with it because it was ‘cool’.   The early years started with her mastering the basics before she got her first partner at the age of 8.  As well as social dancing, she participated in festivals to get used to performing.  At the age of 15 Olga started dancing with Alex, for whom she would compete around the world for the next 15 years.  Her major achievements include 10th place in the European Championships, 3rd in the UK 10 Dance Championships, 3rd in the World Championship American show dance.  Dancing is Olga’s passion, and she comes to Australia to continue to coach and continue her competitive career with DK pro Leighton Stevenson.

Ballroom Instructor

Angelica has loved ballroom dancing with a passion since she first walked into a studio more than 20 years ago. Jumping straight in, she achieved Honours in Ballroom, Latin & New Vogue in Gold and Above Medal Examinations and then went on to teach full-time for three years. After a break from teaching Angelica returned to ballroom dancing 4 years ago, this time becoming a Qualified Ballroom Dance Teacher with Dancesport Australia and teaching at Dancesport Kingdom. Angelica loves working with people of all ages and abilities in achieving their goals and developing self confidence and self expression through dance. Angelica also has had the opportunity to DJ at DK events and loves running social dances, so you might see her in the DJ booth from time to time! Angelica herself has also stepped into the competitive world with a determination to become the best dancer she can be. She currently competes in C grade and Open Events in Dancesport Competitions. And to top it all off, she not only found an awesome dance partner, but her life partner, whom she married in April 2020.

Ballroom Instructor

Chris took up dancing over 20 years ago for exercise and as a social outlet, never anticipating that he'd become hooked on Ballroom. He met his dance partner (and wife) Monika on the dance floor, and together they decided they'd like to raise the standard of their dancing. They are working on achieving this both through competition (initially Medallist, and now Registered), and by furthering their knowledge through training as dance teachers.

Ballroom Instructor

Frank started dancing in 2010 as a way of keeping fit. He became hooked on dancing and went on to complete all of his NDSE awards up to and including Diamond. To further improve his dancing, Frank has taken up teaching and is now a qualified dance instructor. Frank has also enjoyed dancing competitively in the Recreation class and with his dance partner, was the winner in New Vogue at the Australian Championships in 2015 and 2016. He is currently working on completing his NDSE award in Platinum.

Studio Concierge

Jessica commenced dancing at DK as a tiny tot.  Completing all her Awards over the next few years, she then became Australia's youngest ever Dancesport Instructor at the age of 13.  She commenced teaching children's classes shortly after, and after a short break from employment due to Year 12 and studies, now returns to DK in an organisational role.  Jess' smiling face can be found each evening on the desk, and is always ready to help answer your dancing questions, book a lesson, or any enquiry to help you get started.

Studio Concierge

Shona has loved dancing her whole life.  She started Jazz and Tap at the age of four then discovered her love of Ballroom dancing which led her to Dance Kingdom.  After learning to dance Ballroom,  New Vogue and Latin American for the past five years, you can now find her smiling face behind the Dance Kingdom desk when you arrive for your evening of dance.  When not at school, dancing or work, Shona loves spending time with friends or family, in particular water sports such as knee boarding and water skiing

Studio Owner and Founder

Dance Kingdom was established in 2007 by professional Dancesport champion and Championship Dancesport adjudicator Monica Fincham.

She commenced Ballroom, New Vogue and Latin American dancing in her mid teens and commenced what was to become a 17 year competitive DanceSport career over the three competitve styles.  Training both locally and internationally, she was Amateur and Professional Victorian Champion, Crown Champion, South Pacific Champion, National Champion, Premiere Championships Champion, South Australian Open Champion, Queensland Open Champion, and competed both in Asia and in the UK in Bournemouth and at Blackpool during her extensive career.

After retiring from competition in 2013, Monica  now dedicates her time to training her team of Ballroom dance instructors at Dance Kingdom, and ensuring that each student's Ballroom dance experience at the studio is exhilarating.  She is also a DanceSport championship adjudicator.

In 2015 Monica launched National Dancesport Examinations - Australia's first fully choreographed medal award system for Dance Kingdom students, a uniquely successful learning system which assists Ballroom students in their quest to become accomplished social dancers, competitors, performers and teachers.

With a team of talented hand-picked and fully trained instructors, Dance Kingdom is now one of Melbourne’s most successful and friendly dance studios. We love introducing newbies to Ballroom dance, and welcoming back this who used to dance back to our wonderful community.  Whether you just want to try it for fun and fitness, enjoy a whole new social life you've ever dreamed of or take it to the highest level of competition, Dance Kingdom can help you achieve your dancing goals.

DK loves animals and regularly donates to Farm Animal Rescue in Queensland.  Leopard print, as in the 'Kingdom' is a feature of the studio and worn by many of our beloved dancing community!

"A wonderful experience awaits you at Dance Kingdom - one that will no only contribute to a more joyful present, but have a far reaching influence throughout the rest of your life. We experience such joy when a student thanks us for giving them something to look forward to, and work towards each week, and a student glows with a sense of achievement that comes with mastering a new figure or dance. I invite you to share this wonderful opportunity, and can't wait to welcome you to Dance Kingdom" Monica, Founder and Owner
